Ocean Grove Women 5/138 defeated Portarlington 2/122 on a glorious day for cricket.
With 5 debutants (McSween, O’Neil, Pikkert, Woodburn, Pollard) it was a new look outfit for the reigning premiers-the Grubbers.

Batting first the brilliant opening partnership of Alana Kot and Tes Lapham (80 plus) provided a strong platform which enabled all players an opportunity to bat and/or bowl. Captain Jacquie took the opportunity to give everyone a go. Michelle Cameron knocked a few runs around before retiring. Johnston chipped in with a handy 25 off 26 balls.

With a defendable target and music pumping from the sidelines-bands, food trucks and frivolity it was atmospheric.

Bowling goods lines the Grubbers kept Portarlington under the required run rate.
10 bowlers were used and had the thrill of landing most balls on the pitch. Pikkert 3 overs for 9 and Lapham 1/15 off 4 were the pick of the bowlers. Rarely used as a bowler in previous seasons, Johnston picked up a wicket and the Grubbers finally held a catch.

Special mention to Sharon Pollard behind the stumps who brought a ton of experience and chat. With limited training and feeling underprepared it was a good way to start the season with a win.
Thanks to James and Bullfrog for their support.
